My story
How I went from surviving to thriving
Before I became a professional speaker, I was a Marketing Executive for 20 years. Funny thing is that I knew 3 years into my career that marketing wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. But I kept going because it was what I thought I was supposed to do.
I went on to lead campaign development teams for clients like Sony Pictures, Intel, and Unilever. And in the most humble way possible, I was really, really good at my job. I lived and breathed my work nonstop for more than 20 years. But at what cost?
One day, I was writing an email, just like I would any other day, and that’s when it hit me!
The left side of my face started to feel numb. Then, the numbness quickly spread to the left side of my head and left arm. I was terrified that I was having a stroke, so I rushed to the hospital.
After several tests and long conversations with my doctor, I found out that the numbness I experienced that day was actually a panic attack. My doctor warned me that I needed to get my stress under control…or else (insert dramatic music).
Until that moment, I never realized how much burnout was affecting my health, physically and mentally. It’s what inspired me to quit my job and build a career coaching business that eventually evolved into the speaking business I have today.
Too many of us continue on the path of burnout because we think it’s what we’re *supposed* to do, what we *have* to do to survive. I’ve made it my life goal to show as many people as possible that there’s another way.
I get on stage to lead by example - to show audiences that being a great leader doesn’t have to mean sacrificing yourself or your team. I get on stage to show people what’s possible when you lead with courage, not fear.
